CPP Academic Discourse Series – Session 2

CPP Academic Discourse Series Features Insightful Session on GLP-1 Utilization Trends

On 23 October, 2025, the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice (CPP) at Qatar University continued its CPP Academic Discourse Series with an insightful presentation by Dr. Sara Yasser Hussein, Clinical Pharmacist at Aisha Bint Hamad Al-Attiyah Hospital. Dr. Sara delivered an engaging and evidence-based session titled “GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: Global Market Dynamics, Utilization Trends, and Patterns of Off-Label Use and Misuse." Her presentation highlighted the rapidly evolving landscape of GLP-1 therapies, covering global trends, real-world utilization in Qatar, patient-centered considerations, and challenges related to off-label prescribing and misuse locally and globally.

The session generated vibrant discussion among faculty members, who explored clinical practice implications, safety considerations, and areas in need of academic inquiry. This event marks the second in the revitalized CPP Academic Discourse Series, an initiative designed to strengthen scholarly exchange and support continuous professional development within the department.

Prof. Ahmed Awaisu, Head of Department, emphasized the impact of such engagements: “The CPP Academic Discourse Series serves as a vital platform for cultivating critical thinking, advancing clinical scholarship, and ensuring our faculty remain at the forefront of emerging therapeutic developments. Dr. Sara Yasser Hussein's outstanding presentation enriched our collective understanding and exemplified the spirit of academic dialogue we aim to foster within the department. We are also proud that Dr. Sara is a CPH PharmD and BSc graduate."

CPP Academic Discourse Series Launches with Transformative Session on DynaMedex® AI

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice (CPP) at Qatar University launched its revitalized CPP Academic Discourse Series on 25 September 2025. This series reflects the department's commitment to fostering a culture of scholarly dialogue and continuous professional development. Through such faculty-led discussions, the department aims to promote evidence-based practice, enhance clinical reasoning, and inspire collaborative inquiry among its faculty.

The series started with an educative first session delivered by Dr. Bilal Adi from Hakeem X Technology LLC. Dr. Adi presented an overview of DynaMedex® AI, a clinical decision-support platform that combines evidence-based content with advanced artificial intelligence to support timely and accurate decision-making at the point of care.

Faculty members explored the platform's capabilities, real-time evidence retrieval, and its potential to enhance both clinical practice and academic research. Of particular relevance to the College of Pharmacy was the discussion on how DynaMedex® AI can serve as a valuable drug information resource for students, supporting their learning in Professional Skills courses. As an evolution of the commonly used Micromedex system, DynaMedex® AI offers enhanced search functionality, integrated clinical summaries, and AI-driven insights that can enrich students' drug information skills, critical appraisal abilities, and overall readiness for clinical placements.

Reflecting on the significance of this inaugural session, Prof. Ahmed Awaisu, Head of Department, noted:
“Introducing our faculty and students to emerging digital tools like DynaMedex® AI is essential for advancing our academic mission. This platform builds on the strength of Micromedex, which is widely used in our Professional Skills courses, and provides enhanced, intelligent support for drug information and clinical decision-making. Sessions like this inspire innovation in teaching, research, and practice while enriching our scholarly environment."
