    LLM in Public Law

    As the College of Law at Qatar University is considered the main source of legal studies in the State of Qatar, and occupies a prominent position and has accumulated long-standing experiences in the field of legal education, the launch of the Master's Program in Public Law came to consolidate its mission and contribute to promoting social growth in the State of Qatar.

    Keeping pace with the Qatar’s increasing economic growth accompanied with international relations and networks, there has been a need for more specialists in the Public Law, as the country plans to substantially develop its legislative system at all levels. As such, the College of Law response came  to fulfill the State’s desire to create a supportive environment for the principles of the rule of law, and to interact  with its need to formulate advanced legislation supported by specialized and in-depth legal studies through a specialized Master’s Program in the Public Law. The program complies with Qatar’s Vision 2030, and achieves some of its goals in making Qatar a hub for research and intellectual activity.

    Goals

    This program aims to:

    1- Provide the Qatari community with qualified and competent professionals in all relevant legal areas and their modern applications.

    2- Create an appropriate environment for developing scientific capabilities and directing them towards creativity and innovation in legal and professional sciences.

    3- Develop legal research, and filling the gap in the field of specialized legal research, in line with the legislative and judicial development within the Qatari, regional and international community.

    4- Prepare learners and qualifying them to move to the higher educational stage,  the PhD degree in Law.

     

    Admission Conditions:

    Interested applicants must meet the following conditions:

    1- Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in law from Qatar University, or from any other accredited university in the State of Qatar.

    2- Applicant's GPA must not be less than 2.8 out of 4 according to the points system or its equivalent in other evaluation systems.

    3- Detailed CV with the application.

    4- Personal statement detailing reasons for joining the program and why applicant thinks that s/he is eligible for enrollment.

    5- Two recommendation letters written by professors who taught the student during LL.B.

    6- Applicant should successfully pass the acceptance exam.

    7- Applicant should successfully pass the personal interview.

     

    Admission Procedures:

    1- Applications must be submitted to the Department of Admission and Registration at Qatar University within the designated dates using the online application form for graduate studies, with all the supporting and required documents attached thereto.

    2 The Admission and Registration Department at Qatar University examines the applications and refers the accepted ones to the College of Law The College examines these applications, and sets exams and then dates for the in-person interview.

     3- After the personal interview, the College of Law notifies the Admission and Registration Department on the successful applicants.

     

    Study Plan:

    Through the Master's Program in Public Law, the College of Law seeks to provide in-depth study plans for students searching in specific areas of the Public Law, and to qualify graduates for more advanced academic and critical legal knowledge. The purpose is to prepare them to engage in the academic and scientific life. Undoubtedly, this program will provide specialized research opportunities in various legal fields of the Public Law, and will enhance the competitiveness of the College of Law with colleges of comparative programs in the region.

    Accordingly, the College of Law gained the approval of the interested parties to launch its Master’s programs in Arabic effective from the Fall of 2015, so that students are accepted in this program on a full-time basis in the evening period, where:

    1. Number of credit hours is 33 for specialized and in-depth courses.

    2. Courses are interactive, in which the student studies a total of 6 compulsory courses (18 credit hours) and 3 elective courses (9 credit hours), then completes the graduation requirements by writing an authentic scientific thesis (6 credit hours).
