Dr. Ahmed Awaisu

Dr. Ahmed Awaisu is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria in 1999, his masters and Ph.D degrees in Clinical Pharmacy from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He is also a licensed pharmacist and has practiced in the hospital setting since 1999. Dr. Awaisu has a unique privilege of past academic experiences in international pharmacy degree programs. He received the “Qatar University Merit Award for Outstanding Faculty” for 2016-2017 Academic Year. He is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), among others.

Dr. Awaisu had received several intramural and extramural research grants. He has extensive experience in the conduct of pharmacy practice and clinical research involving various types of study designs including case-control and cohort studies, quantitative surveys, mixed-methods designs, randomized control trials, and systematic reviews mostly on diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and tobacco dependence. He has published about 100 peer-reviewed articles in internationally reputable pharmacy and medical journals and 4 book chapters on pharmacy practice especially pharmacists’ expanded scope of practice, outcome-based research, medication adherence, and pharmacy education.

Dr. Awaisu has conducted training sessions and workshops on research methodology and statistics, and responding to symptoms in pharmacy practice. He presents regularly at continuing professional development programs for healthcare professionals in Qatar and other countries. He has successfully supervised several postgraduate and undergraduate research projects. 

 

Dr. Mohamed Izham

Dr. Mohamed Izham is a Professor of Social and Administrative Pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy, Qatar University, Doha, Qatar. He obtained his PhD degree in Pharmacy Administration from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science, Philadelphia, USA in 1995. He was a founding and Chairman for Social & Administrative Pharmacy Program.  He also served as founding Chairman, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Al Qassim University, KSA and founding Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies Affairs, College of Pharmacy, Qatar University.  He was formerly a Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains, Malaysia, and at the College of Pharmacy, Qassim University, Al Qassim, KSA. He has functioned in multiple consultant roles to governments in Malaysia, Sudan, Mongolia, Qatar, and other non-governmental bodies at national and international levels (e.g. World Health Organization [WHO], Health Action International [HAI]).

Dr. Izham is currently part of the editorial board member and reviewer in many peer-reviewed international journals. He has supervised and/or participated in the training of over 80 MSc and PhD graduate students from 14 countries in Africa and Asia. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers, multiple proceedings, monographs, research reports and other publications, including authoring or editing 12 books and multiple book chapters. He has presented more than 100 invited presentations, and is the recipient of 9 international, 18 national and 11 university research grants. He won the 2015 Scopus Medical & Health Science Scientist Award. His areas of interest in research, publication and consultancy include social and administrative pharmacy that focuses on pharmaceutical policy and supply management, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, socio-behavioral aspects of pharmacy, and pharmaceutical management and marketing.   

Dr. Ousama Rachid

Dr. Ousama Rachid is an Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University. He received his BPharm in Pharmacy and MSc in Medicine degrees from Kuwait University and earned his PhD in pharmacokinetics/pharmaceutics from the University of Manitoba, Canada in 2013 where he continued to work as a postdoctoral fellow with focus on preclinical bioavailability/bioequivalence studies. He is part of an international team working on the design, development, and evaluation of novel dosage forms of adrenaline nanoparticles for sublingual delivery for the first-aid treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) in community settings. These novel formulations have been patented and in the licensing process.

Dr. Rachid received several international, national and institutional awards, recognitions and nominations from Pfizer Canada Inc., the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, the Globalization of Pharmaceutical Education Network, the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health and recently the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) from Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). He co-authored more than 15 peer-reviewed publications in high-rank international journals (with impact factor up to 12), more than 30 conference abstracts and one drug handbook. He served as a reviewer for a number of journals, served on the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, served as a consultant for a couple of pharmaceutical companies and co-invented a number of patent groups.
