what is non-destructive testing
Nondestructive testing (NDT) is a technique used to evaluate a system, material, or object without compromising its potential future usefulness. The term is typically used to describe non-medical investigations of material integrity. NDT is frequently used as an inspection method in the oil and gas sector to find hidden flaws in welds and other metallic components.
NDT evaluates the material's mechanical and physical properties and supports in maintaining consistent quality standards to assure product integrity, which in turn increases reliability.
types of non-destructive testing methods
Most Common NDT methods used by industry are:
- Penetrant Inspection
- Magnetic Particle Inspection
- Eddy Current Inspection
- Ultrasonic Inspection
- Radiographic Inspection
- Thermography inspection
what is pcn training scheme
The Personnel Certification in Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) Scheme, is run by British Institute of NDT (BiNDT) and offers a system where by Authorized Qualifying Bodies are allowed to organize NDT personnel training and qualification in accordance with European and international standards.
Institute of Mechanical Engineers, UK (IMechE) is a global leader in providing training in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and is an Authorized Qualifying Body to conduct PCN scheme training and certification.
IMechE has more than 30 years of training experience in all major NDT and Inspection methods, from Level 1 to Level 3, in both employer-based and internationally recognized personal certificate programs. The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at Qatar University and IMechE have established a collaboration to provide NDT training in Qatar in compliance with the PCN Scheme. The Qatari oil and gas industry accepts PCN Certificates.
magnetic particle testing
This technique works well for finding surface and close-to-surface discontinuities in magnetic materials, primarily ferrite steel and iron. Defect identification is carried out using magnetic particle testing (MPT). It can be applied quickly, reliably, and with considerable ease. The training includes both classroom teaching and practical practice sessions. Participants will study operational concepts, related practices, and test pre-cracked standard samples. Also, they learn report writing, interpretation, and evaluation in accordance with the relevant standard and acceptance criteria. BiNDT-approved trainer from IMechE's will conduct the training.

who should attend mpt training?
The Magnetic Particle Testing training might be useful for NDT personnel, inspectors, and technicians who are involved in weld inspection, in-service inspection, or inspection during fabrication. Inspection supervisors, integrity and quality managers, and design and planning professionals can all benefit from this course.
what participants get from this training?
The British Institute of NDT will award PCN MT Level 2 Course certificates to participants who pass the exam, granting them the authority to conduct inspections. The participants will acquire the necessary knowledge and experience in order to independently conduct/supervise the inspection and analyze the inspection results,
