    Molecular Oncology and Environmental Toxicology Lab


    Dr. Korashy’s research team has been focused on studying the role and function of aryl hydrocarbon receptor transcription factor and cytochrome P450 1A1 and 1B1 (AhR/CYP1) in cancer. The research interest of our group is to understand and explore the molecular pathways by which AhR/CYP1 pathway mediates the growth, self-renewal and chemoresistance of cancer stem cells in breast and ovarian cancer. Our work has helped define the mechanism of cancer stem cell proliferation and survival and design a chemoprotective strategies. We also explore the impact of exposure to environmental pollutants on the development of breast and ovarian cancer stem cells. Our research group is pioneer in this area and well-recognised worldwide. Our work has been granted several major grants and funds and has been published in prestigious journals with high impact factor. The ultimate goal of our research is to improve cancer health outcomes and treatment success rate through the understanding of cellular mechanisms of cancer stem cells developments and, hence discovering novel therapeutic targets.
